What it a flashpoint tester?

A flashpoint tester is a laboratory instrument which is used throughout a range of industries and sectors in order to determine the flash point of a sample. Unsure what flashpoint means? Flash point simply refers to the temperature point at which a sample vaporises to an alternative composition state in the air that can be ignited. When this occurs flash point testing apparatus is able to determine and measure the vapour pressure change in which this occurs (the lowest limit of flammability).

When it comes to flash point testers, people are typically presented with two main options to choose from, these are as follows:

  • Open cup flash point testers – these testers are intended to simulate an open and natural environment
  • Closed cup flash point testers – these testers are more known to be used in laboratory testing

Many applications for flash point testing…

As mentioned above, flash point testing is used for a range of applications throughout multiple industries. For example flash point testing can be used to determine the flash point of diesel and other various fuels in petrochemical analysis, to test flavours in food testing, to test paints in materials testing and to test waste removals for environmental analysis.

If you are looking to rent or purchase a flashpoint tester, no matter what your individual needs and requirements may be, there are a number of things that you need to look out for.
